that, to be honest I had no knowledge existed. Teenagers complaining that their
parents are…. Well for want of some better words “too hip”. Quite frankly I’m not sure if they still use the word “hip” to describe anything any more these days. As not to stray from the point, there are scores of teen with parents younger than they are. Some parents who not only embrace the new “neo-generation” but become so obsessed or “possessed”, that they would forsake their age bracket to wear their style of clothing. At first when I heard of this I was taken aback, but upon closer investigation I actually witnessed grown women “powdering” their chest as if about to be dipped into hot oil for a good fry. Some even go so far as to speak in the same slang terms as their teen. I was blown over when I saw grown men wearing their jeans ridiculously low as if falling off their rear end, and exposing their most unattractive underwear. I admit that the music that teen listen too can at times have a catchy beat, but too know every lyric line by line, is carrying it far. Most teen with generation “hot-wok” parents, don’t appear too happy. I heard from one teen “my fadda feel he still young or wat, and mammie caar even dutty wine but she want to go party with me and my friends”. We at times wonder what’s wrong with the youth of
today, please now don’t get me wrong, I believe that it’s every parent’s right to safe guard their children and take special interest in the music and the culture of today’s youth in order to prevent un-wanted elements seeping in to their minds and hearts but with some parents that speak, act and dress younger than their teens do, it’s like the old people say “the cart leading the horse”.
