Eagle-Scribe
The
Eagle-Scribe
newspaper, based in Augusta, Illinois, has been judged one of the better small town newspapers in Illinois by a substantial number of its peers. That consensus appears to be shared by a growing readership which has embraced its solid news style and respected coverage of its service area.
One of four newspapers owned by Eagle Publications of Western Illinois, Inc., A Macomb, Illinois based publishing company, the Eagle-Scribe generally offers between eight and twelve pages of editorial and advertising
content on a weekly basis, largely serving three main villages, Augusta (its current home base), Plymouth, and Bowen, Illinois.
The newspaper offers a
balance of news and feature content in most of its weekly issues, though the balance is often dictated by
local events. Recent examples of this were found in March, 2006, when local news was dominated by a devastating fire which displaced the local high
school in Augusta. That fire dominated the
News, not just locally, but regionally, and received some of its best coverage through the Eagle-Scribe newspaper.
The continuing efforts of the community and the school district to rebuild have provided a significant amount of editorial content since the fire, a trend which is likely to continue at least until school classes resume in late August.
