Georgia`s Democratic Party Gubernatorial Candidates Created A Bruising Fight With the July 18th Democratic Primary rapidly
rolling toward the
voting period- James Salzer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the
two major Democrats with the best chance to unseating Republican Governor of
Georgia Sonny Perdue- threw figurative buckets of mud at their opponent.
Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor- purportedly called his fellow rival for their
party`s nomination for Governor of Georgia- Secretary of State Cathy Cox a
liberal. He additionally accused her of voting against the popular Georgia
Lottery. This program funds college scholarships for eligible Georgia students
to attend college in the state. As a counter weight- Cathy Cox`s fired campaign
manager once tampered with information on an internet website called Wikipedia
to include an arrest of Mark Taylor`s son. This allegation went on biographical
data of Mark Taylor`s. This information was also leaked to the media. Later, the
culprit of this incident- Morton Brilliant resigned from the Cox Campaign.
Apparently, to turn African Americans against Secretary of State Cathy Cox- a
Taylor campaign worker allegedly floated a rumor that she ``once co-sponsored a
bill supporting the old flag.` The old Georgia Flag contained the Confederate
States of America`s emblem of the Stars and Bars. African Americans consider
this as a symbol of oppression. On July 18, 2006- the voters in the Democratic
Primary will decide whom to field against Republican Governor Sonny Perdue- who,
according Salzer- who cited a recent poll conducted by Survey USA-enjoyed a
sixty-three percent approval rating from the people of Georgia.
