In what seems to be a never ending battle in the war in Iraq, President Bush meet with top shiite leader Abdul -
Aziz Al - Hakim for a discussion expressing his disatisfaction with the current civil war whichhasbeen fueledby sectarian violence, making it quite clear that the U.S. adminstration is growing tired of theIraquis unableness or unwillingness to quell the violence. In a bold statement though the Iraqileader stated"We cannot bypass the political process. Iraq should be in a position to solve Iraqi problems," he said. "Therefore, we believe that the Iraqi issue should be solved by the Iraqis with the help of friends everywhere. But we reject any attempts to have a regional or international role in solving the Iraqi issue."
Frankly it's becoming quite clear that this position is being scrutinized very closely considering how in parts of Iraq the police have been terrorized by the terrorists by standing by watching as civilians are shot and brutalized yet showing up at the end of the week in line to collect a paycheck. Not to mention the fact that only a short year ago the commanders on the ground stated that the Iraqi police force would take the brunt of the responsibility in tamping down militias and death squads, yet the last two months there has been a record number of us troops dying in the country fighting alongside Iraqi troops and in most cases all by themselves in order to gain control back over the country especially Baghdad the capital. And then in a statementMr Hakim has told reporters after meeting with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that he has asked us forces to stay in Iraq permantley to help Iraqi forces contend the terrorists. Lets just hope that happens.
