It's monday night and you and your girls are sitting by the fire place roasting hotdogs ,and eating marshmellows.
The
drama" Girlfriends" CW Network is making it's appearance on the TV . In this particular episode Myra's
teenage son is getting into all sorts of trouble. He is basically the recarnation of Dennis The Menace in the now and later ..Do.you remember the semi hard candy called now and later.It probably the reasonI look like a chinese goose with limted access to using my back teeth..
Well let's get back to the subject at hand .I know some of you parents can relate, your teenage son has defiance problems. In my day it's called hard headed. Let's look at some of the circumstances surrounding the behavioral problems. (1) The teenage son plagarize a chapter from one of his mom's novels. Hello...I know that boy did not steal his mom's writings ,and then he had the nerve to get an A for his efforts.
I would have marched his behind right back to that
school and enrolled him in some Supplementary Writing Classes.I would have then took time out of my busy schedule to sit right there in his eager face ,and made sure he completed all his assignments . (2) He skipped school to attend a birthday party . One of his boys were giving. He got stopped by the police. My oh my please call that boy's daddy ,and let him continue to have some parental influence in that boy's life.His mom actually makes excuses for the reason why she did not want to tell his daddy about his behavior. (3) This capped the wholeGirlfriend episode off!! This kid was playing with matches ,and set his mom's partial rug on fire.He says he is lonely ,and that he missed his home boys from his old neighborhood .In essence the kid felt isolated and wanted his mom to give him more attention.
I can relate to this ordeal. Our children need to grow up with a sense of security,and unconditional love.It would not hurt to give your teenager an occassional hug every now and then. They need to be validated by our love.
