Baghdad Advance – In an early morning pre-dawn raid by Iraqi and US
forces into a Shiite militia stronghold Sunday, they meet with no resistance and not a single shot fired when the 1,200 member force entered Sadr City communities.
The entrance by the forces was to test the commitment of Shiites that support the US
campaign to eliminate militant activity within Sadr City a one-time brazen battle zone.
Meanwhile, last week Iraqi and US forces began cracking down on Shiite death squads within Sadr City that have been linked with killing thousands of Sunni rivals over the past several years.
It is clear that these two factions have deep-rooted hatred for one another and despite the US campaign to bring order and self rule to all the Iraqi people, the onslaught of terror and murder will persist long after the US removes troops from this besieged country.
