Democrats` Divide Open Window For A Potential McCain Victory
By: Tommy Elder, Jr.
With Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Senator Barack Obama of Illinois fighting a figurative trench war- some analysis believe that a victory by Senator John McCain in November becomes probable. Jeff Zeleny of the New York Times writes the the predominate debate currently coursing through the Democratic Party revolves around whether Senator Obama represents the elite in the country.
Since Senator Obama`s comments about small towns- Mr. Zeleny notes that- ``it has suddenly prompted a series of questions and worry- from Democrats about whether Mr. Obama could weather a Republican onslaught in the fall, sheuld he win the presidential nomination.``
Piling on the criticism of Senator Obama- Steve Schmidt- a supporter of Senator of Senator John McCain for President- indicated to traveling journalists- ``that Mr. Obama`s comments were `condescending and elitist` and that they would keep up the criticism for the duration of Senator Obama`s candidacy.`
Some political pundits not that statements such as Senator Clinton`s taunting Senator Obama as an ``elitist`` and his retort that she presents herself- ``like she is Annie Oakley. This comment followed a statement made by Senator Hillary Clinton about her ``shooting guns.``
As this war of words flares up among the Democratic Presidential contenders- some members of that party support the sentiment expressed by Dave Davis- an electrical worker from Oregon who said- `I wish they would just go into a corner and figure it out and quit fighting.` He went on to say that- `Taking shots at each other isn`t doing anybody any good. It will only help Republicans in the end.`
