Obama Losing Appeal To Far Left
By: Tommy Elder, Jr.
As the November Presidential Election comes nearer- the far left flank of the Democratic Party appears to lose some of its enthusiasm for the presumptive Democratic Party Nominee Senator Barack Obama. William Yardley of the New York Times writes that a sense of disillusionment descends on the most liberal element of the Democratic Party. Among this core constitutency presumed party nominee Illinois Senator Barack Obama deserted the faith. Martha Shade- a former supporter of Senator Obama noted that- `I`m disgusted with him` (Senator Obama). She continued- `I can`t even listen to him anymore. He had such an opportunity, but all this `audacity of hope` stuff, it`s blah, blah, blah. For all the independents he`s going to gain, he`s going to lose a lot of progressives.`
In an attempt to hold Senator Obama to the policies advocated by progressives- Bob Fertic, President of Democrats.com, requested that those visiting his site put funds in an escrow account for Senator Obama. This scheme intends to pressure Senator Barack Obama into re-examining his ``support for (the Bush administration`s) policy on wiretapping. To date, 675 people promised $ 101,375 for this account.
Commenting on the Obama phenomenon- Bob Blanchard wrote in the New York Times- `My attitude is lighten up on the guy. We want to win. Moving to the center is not a crime in this country.`
