Throughout Obama's campaign he emphasized the country was in dire need of change. The
economy had to be
received a stiumulus
to get going. The war in Iraq got major coverage. Health care, social security, and education ranked high in priority. On January 20th, 2009 he stood on the steps in Washington, D.C. and promised to accomplish what he campaigned so hard on. We now move forward sixty plus days to April 4th, 2009.
Large financial instutions have
received over seven hundred Billion dollars in relief. And wht has this enormous energy boost to the
economy got us? These very banks paid out some very nice bonuses to corporate executives. Thankfully a good number of them returned these checks in good faith. We have learned how the AIG group and others like them managed to sell the same notes over and over. Thusly our tax payer money was used to pay off these multiple note transactons.
The War in Iraq for some reason has fallen out of the headlines. Daily men and women of the armed forces are killed or wounded. Yet, whether or not the stock market goes up or down seems to matter more. There are talks now of taking these brave servicepeople and shipping them to Afghanistan. The war on terrorism is alive and well.
Billions of dollars was intended to ease the employment problems in this national, The money comes with a few strings attached. Any and all increase in benefits for unemployment expiring in 2010 must then be taken over by the same states having no resources in the first place. This fiscal bandaid on the bleeding artery of unemployment is sure to hemorrhage wih no economic surgeon in sight.
Education in the United States when controlled the school districts runs Just Fine. The reason school budgets increase is because federal mandates which are UNFUNDED by the federal government are strapping the budgets. The little red school houses taught men the likes of former presidents and legislators for decades. Returning controls of curiculums to schools makes more sense than tests which are supposed to show strengths and weaknesses in the classes. In my day that was what Teachers were for.
It is admirable what the new president and his Democratic Controlled Congress wish to do. Any help can not be all that bad, can it? Trying to do seven jobs at the same time always results most of them never being finished. Partisanship and unilateral decision making causes more harm than good.
Maybe the next sixty days will result in lesser unemployment, no more of us owning a finacial institution filled with greed and lame management, better thinking by the powers to be on the hills, more reaching across the aisle in the House and Senate, and most importantly remembering We The People elected them to make this great nation of ours better for us and our future generations.
