An
Appointment in Istanbul from The New York Times blogged from the Turkish Digest here in England on Sunday morning is a
delightful story about a woman deserted flying out to Istanbul where she meets a Muslim Man called Zia who flirts with her and they exchange glances and
favourite singers which include Streisand Celine Dion and the Rolling Stones Dare I say it they meet at or outside Hagia Sophia and Zia reveals the whereabouts of a swimming pool not in the Guidebooks .. the story has a wonderful flow of interesting little anecdotal insets and collides with the reader's notion of Istanbul and favourite places but our deserted lady leaves Istanbul and is cured of all the desperation found in her heart by a chance meeting with Zia! An
Appointment in Istanbul reminds me or meetings in Istanbul which were not on time or were not suitably addressed in a personal sense. However its clear that the New York Times likes a rather blunt short story so I guess that's its strength. Henry Alford as a postcript to this blog is a contributor to Radio 350 - writer - and his theme is - to see that Old People Teach Wisdom while on the earth .. nice work!
