An overview of
Cellulite Laser Surgery & its side effects. What is Cellulite? Cellulite is fat that builds up under the skin, causing a dimpled effect. It accumulates in pockets just below the surface of the skin. The common target areas are hips, thighs & buttocks.Cellulite is not a different kind of fat, but can be more visible than fats deeper in the body for its proximity to the surface of the skin. Even thin people can have cellulite as we all have fat cells. Collagen fibers connecting fat to the skin may elongate, break down, or pull tight, allowing the fleshy fat cells to swell. This creates the rippled look of cellulite. Possible Causes:Heredity is one of the chief determining factors of the
appearance of cellulite. Poor diet, ‘fad dieting’, slothful metabolism, hormonal disturbances and even dehydration may have a role to play.Few straightforward measures to avoid cellulite:Eat a fiber-rich diet (including fruits, vegetables)Exercise regularlyMaintain a healthy weight (don’t starve or go for whim-diets)Quit smokingStay hydrated with plenty of fruitsTreatment:The medical fraternity doesn’t quite consider cellulite as a disorder, but a normal condition among few men & many women. Whatever be the cause of its appearance one must not go for miracle products,
treatments or medicines to get rid of it. For instance, some salon treatments promising cellulite disappearance, actually puff up your skin through deep massaging, thus temporarily reducing the appearance of cellulite.Treatments like liposuction (surgery to
remove fat) and mesotherapy (injection of drugs into cellulite) are either pricey or may produce only transitory enhancement. Many doctors even consider liposuction an ineffective treatment for cellulite, as it is intended to remove deeper fats and not cellulite, which is closer to the skin surface. What is Laser? Laser (Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation) is a light beam that can be accurately focused, used to treat tissues by heating the targeted cells until they "rupture". It can be used for cosmetic purposes, like removal of wrinkles, tattoos, or birthmarks.Several types of Lasers include Carbon dioxide Laser (CO2 Laser), the YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) laser, and the pulsed dye laser. Each laser has precise uses. The
color of the light beam used is directly associated to the type of procedure being performed and the color of the tissue being treated.Uses of LASER:Remove tumorsSeal blood vesselsSeal lymph vessels to reduce inflammation and decrease the spread of tumor cellsSeal nerve endings to reduce postoperative painRemove warts, moles, and tattoosReduce the appearance of skin wrinklesRemove hairPossible side effects of LASER Treatment:BleedingInfectionPainScaringSkin color changes
