Land of the Free!
Ok, so the Yanks don’t
really deserve a contribution from me. Which is Exactly why they’re going to get one. Just to remind them that we have writers here in England still as I write!
But the USA is a great
place really. The only problem is that it is inhabited by Americans. It is just the same as Italy. Everyone needs to
visit the place when all of them are out of Town!
Whether the term "User" = USA is relevant has always puzzled me. I can’t see why Anyone would accuse these people of using the world around them. Such a claim is ridiculous! So...
They
gave us the motion picture. They gave us the hamburger. They gave us Jazz. They gave us 9/11. Then they gave a lot of people stuff loads of rockets that they shouldn’t have had. The only problem with their giving is that Everyone has to Die in order for it to Work!
But a few of them live life to the full. At least at the Olympics you can tell this. It is difficult to remember the last Summer Olympics where they did Not top the table. Ok Germany had them in Turin. But often enough in the Winter Games they’re also doing pretty decently!
So. About my visits. Well most of them recently have been via post or electronic link. The last time I set foot in the great West was 1990. That’s 16 years ago. I am willing to accept that parts of the beers have altered a little in that time. But that would apply to anywhere on the face of this planet in that time. Have they improved everything? Or just Built on it?
It was a Mighty trip in 1990. I started in New York. And incredibly made the decision to head North. Someone said. "No! Don’t go
South like everyone else! Go North!" So I Did. This proved rather quickly that I wasn’t in the US at all but in the land of their likeable neighbours. But at least they think slightly more of the Brits than the Irish. A start, maybe?
So. Glossing over the provinces I returned to the Home of the Brave in the far North - West where they all confuse you by calling it Washington. As if it wasn’t enough that there are more links to that name than any other, they have Two states with said connection. Really!
And I then headed south down route 101 and found this strange place with a Jail. I was not invited to stay too long there as this was freedom revisited. But plenty of drug users to occupy their absolute fair legal system nonetheless. Then who could resist some Nature?
So onwards past very hot places towards the blossoming South - East. This was where you discover that they can cram huge amounts of stuff into stupidly small areas. And if the Jaws ride had happened to be open, then I probably wouldn’t be sitting writing here right now!
And so a quick family visit. Yes. Mum’s baby brother has sieged the place for at least 30 years. And he’s one of the
good guys! But they’re All good guys! Honest! So a quick trip to the strange batting diamond and then North and then home. How can I possibly say it All?
Go! Visit! They all adore your accent and they offer things at reasonable prices. This is a place where you Really Do get what you pay for! Just look at the conversion rates and you can tell immediately. One day they’ll All stay in Bed! THEN We’ll Know! Tim N.08/06 X.
