The United States of America should lower the drinking age of twenty-one to eighteen years old as it was twenty-three years ago. According to The Washington Post newspaper, the United States currently has the highest drinking age set at twenty-one years old than any other country .(source) At age sixteen most teens are eligible to drink alcohol in the following countries France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, and Spain. At eighteen years old young adults can legally purchase alcohol in Argentina, Chile, Hong Kong, Jamaica, and Israel. The fortieth president of the United States, Ronald Reagan, shouldn’t had sign the National Minimum Drinking Age Act making it into a law on July 1984, which raised the legal drinking age to twenty-one in all fifty states. (Source) Being aware that in the last few years there has been movement to try lowering the drinking age, but knowing that there are also groups preventing that to happen. During my research, I have found that lowering the legal drinking age to eighteen would have a great impact in today’s society.
