Congresswoman McKinney Mounts Battle For Political Survival
With a razor thin lead in the July 18, 2006 Democratic Primary vote- 4th
District of Georgia U. S. Representative Cynthia McKinney must face former Dekalb Commissioner Hank Johnson in the August 8, 2006 Democratic Party Primary. Known for her high national and controversial profile- Congresswoman McKinney must rally more support in the new areas of her district in Gwinnett and Rockdale Counties to retain her seat in the United States Congress. Based on an article written in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution- written by James Salzer- Representative McKinney`s weakest point comes from the portion of her district that swings into Gwinnett and Rockdale Counties. Mr. Hank Johnson, a former Dekalb County Commissioner, her opponent, garnered more
votes in Gwinnett County. He received 847 votes while Congresswoman McKinney received 836 votes here. To regain the Democratic Nomination for Georgia`s Fourth Congressional District- Representative McKinney`s campaign manager John Evans said that Congresswoman McKinney would mount a determine drive to win more votes in the Rockdale and Gwinnett Counties` portion of the Fourth Congressional District. As Mr. Evans related to James Salzer and Jeremy Redmon of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution- `I`m not sure there will be any magic to this besides the usual campaign strategies- going into churches, communities, having a presence at meeting and functions.` On August 8, 2006, the voters in the Democratic Party in Georgia`s Fourth Congressional District will choose their nominee for the November 8, 2006 General Election.
