Democrats Seize United States Senate With Allen`s Fall Extracted from an article written by Michael D. Shear of the Washington Post- Virginia United States Senator George Allen, Republican of Virginia saw his 2008 Presidential ambition go up in smoke. Mr. Allen lost his bid to return to the United States Senate when Democrat Jim Webb defeated him for re-
election. Officially, Senator George Allen received 1,165,440 votes or 49.3
percent. Democratic nominee Mr. Jim Webb garnered 1,172,671 or 49.6 percent with Ms. Glenda Parker capturing 26,106 ballots or 1.1 per cent. Officially, the Webb win will give the Democrats fifty-one votes or control of the next session of the United States Senate. Tuesday`s Election saw the Democrats wrestle control of the United States House of Representatives as well from the grip of the Republican Party. These results will cataupault California United States Representative Congress Woman Nancy Pelosi into the role as the first female Speaker of the United States House of Representative when the next session of congress convenes in January. Since the United States Senate Contest in the State of Virginia turned out as a cliff hanger- defeated Senator George Allen could demand a recount. A high official within the Allen campaign indicated earlier ``that he did not believe any further re-examination of the 2.3 million ballots in Virginia would change the outcome of the election.`` Based on the law in Virginia- Senator Allen could demand a recount since Mr. Webb`s margin of victory amounted to less than one percent. Sources close to Senator Allen down played any talk of a recount. Before Tuesday`s General Election defeat-some political pundits considered Senator Allen as a top flight contender for the 2008 Republican Presidential Nomination.
