Vietnam's e-commerce will see strong
growth next year
since plans for developing the sector will be intensively implemented,
according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Deputy Minister Le Danh Vinh said at a recent meeting
that the e-commerce had been expanding rapidly in Vietnam and would be
intensively developed.
A survey conducted by the ministry's E-commerce
Department shows that 40% of domestic
enterprises have websites, and
93% are connected to the Internet for business purposes.
About 13% of respondents said they have their own
databases for direct connection to their partners, paving the way for
business-to-business development.
Meanwhile, commercial
banks are boosting e-banking services.
Nguyen Thanh Hung, director of the E-commerce
Department, said a circular guiding the implementation of
e-transactions is expected to be issued by the end of the month,
contributing to the development of the sector.
Industry insiders say many new B2B
websites could be launched next year, spurring growth in e-commerce.
Hoang Quoc Viet, CEO of Nguyen Hoang Group which is
specializing in information technology, told the Daily that e-commerce
in Vietnam would boom in the near future and that his
company would not
miss this opportunity.
"Now, we are piloting an e-commerce website at http://monova.vn
under the form of Business to Business (B2B) to provide an e-trading
floor linking Vietnamese enterprises and their foreign partners. The
website will be officially launched early next year," Hoang added.
Although e-commerce is growing fast, the industry is
facing many hindrances like privacy and network security and the
shortage of supporting
services at e-commerce websites. The survey
shows only 26% of Vietnamese e-commerce websites have privacy policies.
Industry insiders said that to ensure sustainable
development of e-commerce, local enterprises should invest more in
Internet infrastructure and strengthen the protection of privacy and
security.
