I started to learn Japanese a while ago using textbooks and wanted
an app that would reinforce my knowledge. I'd seen on T.V and heard on
the radio about Rosetta Stone and decided to try it out.
The first lesson just throws you into the deep end. I know some
people like that, but it's not for me. If it wasn't for my prior
knowledge of Japanese it would of been harder to follow. In the
lessons, you'll hear a sentence and have to click on the picture that
the sentence describes. After doing a few you get the hang of it and the
choices soon become predicable. There's no real explanation for grammar
and use of certain words, however you can book a time with a native
speaker through the app. The time for your lesson with the teacher will
be based on USA (PST) time, making it inconvenient if you live outside
the USA . I have read that Rosetta plan to expand their company to other
countries to make sure there's a teacher available any time of the day,
as often as possible. All in All I wouldn't advise using Rosetta Stone
to learn a language, especially because of the cost. In my eyes, it's
not worth the money. I'd give it 4/10
