ADVANCED MATHEMATICAL STATISTICS

Book Summary by: VijaiKSharma

Original Authors: Abha; Vijai; Prakash
Mathematics and Statistics are important sciences in their own way, but in a combination
of the two, has made substantial progress, and led to beneficial results. This progress has partly been due to the advances, which are taking place, in the field of capabilities of computers. This book has thirteen Chapters, and an appendix containing 16 practical exercises. It discusses various topics such as Measure Theoretic notions leading to Lebesgue-Radon-Nikodym Theorem; Metamathematical concepts of model; multivariate analysis; some basic notions of matrix algebra; multivariate normal distribution; sampling distribution of M.L.estimates; Hotellig’s Generalized T2 statistic; the Wishart distribution; sampling distribution of correlation coefficient; partial correlation; principal components and canonical correlation and discriminant analysis; maximum likelihood estimates of parameters in multinormal distribution; non-parametric methods.  Chapter 5 discusses derivation of multivariate normal distribution, linear transformation, partial derivatives for vectors and matrices and orthogonal matrix.  Chapter 10 discusses application of partial correlation coefficient, the multiple correlation coefficient etc. Chapter 11discusses about some preliminary notions, the theory of principal components (Hotelling) and Canonical Correlation (Hotelling) etc. It also talks about classificatory problems, their general nature, testing of hypothesis and theory of discrimination, Maxmin and Minmax concepts, Discrimination rule and Discriminant analysis etc.  Chapter 13 discusses about the non-parametric methods (NPMs), including special features, basic assumptions for and drawbacks of NPMs, sig n test, the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test, Walsh test, randomization test, Me Nemar test for the significance of change, the Fisher’s test, the Median test, Moses test, the Mann Whitney test, K.S. test, W W run test, the Randomization test, the run test, the Chi-square test, the Binomial test and Cochran’s test etc. This book gives several examples, formulae, equations, theorems and definitions in each of the Chapters. It is useful for degree and post-graduate students and research scholars.
