There are these birds making noises, “can you hear them?” Have just been through the park, which is called “Park
Orchards”, I gather. This is the way towards Park
Orchards so, isn’t it real beautiful the trees and all the piece and quietness, and the same of the flora and fauna and the birds; so it’s a wonderful thing coming with the tape alongside me and sort of go and keep recording wherever I go & that makes a memory of this cycling tour I
organised for myself with the intention of increasing my knowledge in a wide range of flora, fauna, animals (wild) and meeting of people from all over. Wonderful having the tape recorder around me as it enables me to record all kinds of things which will make a memory of this ride and as going along well I got to another
bicycle track pathway that has been built for the bicycle and for people to walk on. Its so glorious out here, its all new countryside, & its all new countryside & its all new pathways and all that has been built; and so that’s making a lot of hope its all that’s been built; so that’s making it a lot of hope once the flora & fauna have made it a beautiful afternoon that has been; had today away from Melbourne; over here in the country in one of the outskirts of Melbourne, where the countryside is more so than Melbourne. It depends on where you’re going through the bushes, and then you come out the other side and then you are alongside the Yarra.
It’s a marvel going in on a bit of a straight line now to what it was once, and then you get to the Yarra here & there. The Orchards are beautiful apples are there and there will be a festival on soon. And talking about the Orchards & all up the top & hill there’s a whole lot of trees that have been covered with some sort of cloth for some reason or other, so it shows that there are rare things that happen over here that’s regarding also, its just one of those things which is learnt on the bicycle ride or so, so it makes it a kind miracle ride, this ride & all.
Coming up now there are a another lot of trees and another part of the Yarra here so it alters it change as you go along; there’s a bit of beauty on the right hand side on the outside of the orchards there are a whole lot of trees that have been planted to grow alongside the bicycle track, it really is a remarkable piece trees and beauty and that is what the “Apple festival” is all about in a few weeks time as Andrew was saying on Sunday 30th March 2003, so I gather that these are the apples he was talking about; because they used to be on the market once, but they have not been on the market now for some time. They are only for the local people where they go and have various festivals now; so its only for the local area where apples are provided for certain programs like the Apple Festival which is on in May, so its only available in the local area. As going along and just keep cycling where I see more flowers and trees make a short stop; where I know wonderful bicycle track which now goes round on an edge now where I wouldn’t be able to go here at all. So its what it was from Eltham on the other side of the river as you go along. I will now be going and keep making out a note for the book and then sort out some sort of keeping it round the neck because its there when you want to keep adding and then make recordings like this one of the differing areas. Its certainly amazing as just now when I was going along the Yarra, well then there’s on the other side and all, its more or less back to square one where otherwise further back and is all along because I hear there’s another one of those new pathways that are being built as a wooden floor. It’s more or less the same as the other one was at the beginning and it seems as though I’m back there then, isn’t it amazing where this is further on than the Yarra. This is a bit of a corner like this, it isn’t quite as longlike the other one was, It’s a beautiful place I hear, I’ll go and have a look.
Over here is what’s known as Tikalara Park, which is a “Spirit of the Place”, it has pictures where, this is the original homestead including two chimneys and enclosed rooms at the north and south? There’s another one where there’s a puntful homestead from the northeast and showing the detached kitchen added in the 1870’s. In the 1950’s the house was extensively remodelled; the kitchen moved inside the house. The fireplace was removed and cement sheet (exterior) enclosed verandas.
There’s a picture that goes and depicts edging and Aboriginal camp, illustrates that Mr and Mrs Tikalara’s dwelling that was permanently established at Tikalara in 1837. As there are various pictures and different buildings.
