Chinese Modernist Novel:Imaginary Time

Article Summary by: TsingHua

Original Author: Journal of South China Agricultural University(Social Science Edition)
This abstract was translated from 中国现代主义小说:想像中的时间
Focusing on the absolute present is the only way to control one's own existence. The main theme of realism novel is to explain
and interpret the meaning and symbolisms of being in existence.Time is the interrelation between the present and the existence;therefore, imaginary time becomes the representation of Symbol to the existing interpretation and is the essence of realism novels.Environment as a function of time forms the novel's progressive style. In the repercussion of the various functions of time, the abstraction of the presences solidifies into real existence, and time as a result, becomes multiplied into abstract reality.Almost all of Lu Xun's novels follow the format of dissemination of a memoir in the present sense. He initiates the path that stretch to the past in order to lead the reader forward.Ma Yuan and some other novelists of that genre also describe the operation of traps in order to displace and time and restruction in order to recreate and emphasize the rebellion against modernism. The presence,as presented in the novels, uses self-centralized time dimension,in other words,a type of hyper-present that ubiquitously extents in temporal continuum. The preservation of memory is replayed by the digestion of memoirs. This is the fundamental concept of Chinese modernistic novels.
