Both in Oriental and Western history, there was ancient
geostrategic form. Su Qi n was one of the greatest ancient geostrategic politician in China. By the strat egy of "Lianheng", or unity, he canvassed Huiwang, king of Qin Kingdom, with ext remely accurate analysis on real status of the
War States geostrategies, and he predicted that Qin Kingdom would surely unite the whole
country. From the politi cal situation in the War State
Period, the
seven powers coexisted in mutual rest riction in the early period. Later in the middle period, the seven powers closel y bordered on each other, with conflicts unavoidable, with Qin Kindom wisely avo ided confrontation with other six powers, but conquered Shu in the southwest, in which Qin Kingdom becoming historically stronger and the power balance among th e seven powers destroyed. In the final period of the War States, Qin united the whole country in a thunderstorm. Although Huiwang,King of Qin Kingdom, did not gi ve important office to Su Qin,the activities in later period was actually abidin g by Su Qins proposals. To analyze Qins
unification of the whole country by m odern geostrategic view with Su Qins "Zhongheng" theory,it can be seen that Qi n Kingdom possessed the superiority in region, in topography, and in social syst em over other six states in geography, population, army, resources, farm product ion and reserve and transportation. Qin Kingdom became strong and prosperous by widely canvassing intellectuals to carry out reform, to implement agricultural- war strategy, to strengthen centralized power, to strengthen weaponry reserve. A necessary conclusion can therefore be made: Qins unification of the whole cou ntry was inevitable. Taking geostrategic factors as the chief variable in determ ining national strength and international relations, and taking geostrategic pol itical factors as major basis for determining international situation and for co nstitute strategy are still of practical significance for us to deal with presen t complex international relations.
