effectiveness and impact of
youth health education in unmarried youth in floating population of
Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. Methods: Data were collected by questionnaire and discussion. Questionnaires were conducted ina factory where
youth health education was offered (intervention group) and in the other factory where such education was not given (control group). One investigation was carried out before the intervention and the other after the investigation to study the difference between the two investigations, and the influences other than from the education (such as publicity of mass media) were controlled. The first investigation (base - line investigation) was carried out in March 2003 just after return of peasant workers to the city after the Spring Festival, when the health education for unmarried youth had not been conducted yet. The second investigation was carried out in November 2003 when the health education had been completed. Results: The results of youth health education were conspicuous. Those workers who received such education gained the knowledge about sex and reproduction health, knew the measures for prevention of STD and AIDS, and contraception, and strengthened the consciuosness of selfprotection. Conclusions: Youth health education is a very valuable and important matter, favorable to healthy growth of youth and improvement of population quality, welcomed by the youth, and accordingly worthwhile broadly spreading.
