This is a paper on the current situation of education and research of Social Policy in the UK.By a closer look of the features and organization of Social Policy education and research in the most important universities in the UK,some light is to be shed on the possible development of Social Policy teaching and research as an individual section in the education and research institutes in China. The paper includes four sections:1.The features of Social Policy research.Four features are discussed in details with which Social Policy is described as multidisciplinary in theory,region or district specific in the content of research,pragmatic in the setting of research topics and diversified in methodology.2.The teaching and research of Social Policy in the UK.Some characteristics are listed with regard to the top teaching and research institutions,arrangement in majors and courses,the functioning of various research centers and the coordination of research and practice.3.The necessity and possibility of independent Social Policy teaching and research.In this section,the current development in both the practice of economic and social reform and the related research areas and disciplines is regarded as the necessary preparation for Social Policy teaching and research as a separated section.4.Some thoughts on the development of Social Policy research and teaching in China.Policy suggestions are made with regard to the establishment of multilevel and multidimensional teaching and research institutes in Social Policy and the possible functioning as consultant in the related topics.
