In grottos and temples along the Heal Corridor are there pieces of classical Chinese painting on silk, and murals,which are
about the story of the Tang monk going to acquire acquire,and which are handed down from different historical periods. Found in the Donghuang scripture-hiding cave, the silk painting of the late Tang Dynasty portraying an itinerant monk accompanied by a tiger, indicates that the story of the Tang monk acquiring scriptures had ben evolving from a story of ed people and real events to a legendary one. The picture of the Tang monk going to acquire scriptures found in the Yulin grotto of Anxi county, has ben considered to be a work which was finished in the pened of the Western Xia regime, at least 100 years earlier than the appearance of A Vernacular Story with Poems of the Tang Monk Going to Acquire Scriptures in the Southern Song Dynasty. The Journey to the me the Pictures Telling the Story,collected in the Grand Buddha Temple of Zhangye is, again, over 200 years over than the completion of m Journey to the West in the book form. all of these Pictures are the convincing find-hand data helpful and conducive to the study of the culture of The Journey to the West and the scripture-acquiring complex fond through long years of integration on the Silk Road. So it is of much significance to excavate the culural resources of The Journey to the wet along the Hexi Corridor in opening up all expanding us domains of research in Donghuangology and the relationship between the Hexi culture and The Journey to the West.
