A Theory of Market Literature—also about Displacement and Change of Literature in the 1990's

Article Summary by: TsingHua

Original Author: JOURNAL OF THE NORTHWEST NORMAL UNIVERSITY(SOCIAL SCIENCES)
ince the 1990's,with the deep going of the open and reform, and particularly with the appearance and establishment of
the socialist market economic system, the Chinese contemporary literature has been undergoing displacement and transformation. So far as its current situation and pattern are concerned,it may by classed into three major types:market literature, quasi market literature and unmarket literature(including“black market literature”,which must be banned).Market literature,to be exact, should be in the present stage termed“newborn literature of market economy”,which tries to meet needs by producing creative writings in much the same way as the market operates. Its main purpose is to serve the needs of the mass culture so as to contribute to the construction of the two categories of civilization.Literary works which are current on the market, have covered the largest portion of the market and reached the largest audience, and as a result, this literature is rapidly developing into the main force of the future literature. In disussing this type of literature, the author shows the anthropological spirit in which to probe into and seek for what is puzzling in reflection. It is just during this difficult transition period that the author is trying to explore an explanation of significance and value of man's own existence, which is a fundamental reflection on anthropologism.
