Objective:To investigate the effects of the Chinese herbal medicine formula
Qing Fei Zhi Xiao Tang on inhibiting
airway inflammation in a murine
model of
asthma.Methods:C57BL/6 mice were sensitized intraperitoneally and challenged aerosolized with ovalbumin(OVA)to establish an asthmatic model. Qing Fei Zhi Xiao Tang according to the corresponding
dose was administered intragastrically after being firstly sensitized.48h after the last challenge collect bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) and bone marrow cell suspension, cell counts and differentials. Then the lungs were fixed in neutral buffered formaldehyde.Three micro meter paraffin sections were stained with hematoxylin and PAS and examined microscopically. Results:An optimal dose of Qing Fei Zhi Xiao Tang 2 5g/ml for 26 days was used in this study, which was the dose to inhibit inflammation of the airways. The total number of cells and the number of eosinophils (Eos) in BALF were decreased significantly, compared with those in OVA group, but there was statistically significant difference between Qing Fei Zhi Xiao Tang and BUD treatment.Lung histologic examination also demonstrated that Qing Fei Zhi Xiao Tang reduced inflammation and mucus hypersecretion. Conclusion:The Chinese herbal medicine formula Qing Fei Zhi Xiao Tang can partially inhibit allergen induced airway inflammation in a well characterized murine model of asthma.
