Objective To study the therapeutic results of Epimedium preventing o-variectomy-induced osteoporosis in rats. Methods 30 female SD rats at 3 months of age were randomly divided into control group (1 groups), tendency group(2 groups) and experiment group(3 groups). 2 group and 3 group all been amputated ovary,3 group were given Epimedium. 1 group were given to use skill handling. After 4 weeks and 12 weeks, random execute 5 rats in 3 group. Take the lumbar 5th vetebra and make paraffin section,stain with HE and Van Gieson,analyse bone little beam structure with image analyst,and count multi-nuclei/osteoclast like-cells. Results Tendency group compare with control group, Tb. Th and Tr. Ar have obvious decreasing while Tb. Sp increasing. Trabecular bone in Epimedium group measure is similar to compare group. The number of multi-nuclei/osteoclast like-cells in tendency group is obviously more than 1 group and 3 group. Conclusion Epimedium can prevent efficiently the ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis.
