Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF),
Epidermal Growth Factor (Egf),and
fibronectin (FN) on rabbit corneal wound caused by mustard gas. Methods After the left eye cornea were exposed to mustard gas (200 μL·L 1 ), 32 rabbits were divided into four groups (group A, B, C, D) at random. Group A, B, C, D were treated with chloromycetin eyedrops (control), bFGF, EGF and FN respectively. The cornea were stained with fluorescence and photographed 2, 8, 16, 24, 36,72 h after exposure. The rate of corneal
epithelium healing and percentage of corneal defect were calculated. Results The epithelium healing rates of treated groups(B, C, D) for three days 〔(1.276±0.152)mm 2·h 1 ,(1.294±0.158)mm 2·h 1 , and (1.373±0.177)mm 2·h 1 respectively〕were higher than that of control〔(1.094±0.154)mm 2·h 1 ,P<0.05〕. The percentages of corneal defect of treated groups for 27 days(51.9%、54.2% and 52.8%) were lower than that of control (73.6%, P<0.01). Conclusion The treatment with bFGF、EGF and FN could accelerate the healing of corneal epithelium injured by mustard gas.
