Studies on the remarks made by
DENG Xiao-ping during his inspection tour of the south have yielded gratifying results since
1992 and delved ever deeper. At the beginning efforts were made mainly to tease out and analyze the contents and link what was said by
DENG Xiao-ping with realities and historical experience in order to clarify some ambiguous and incorrect ideas and to push forward the emancipation of mind. What distinguishes the middle period studies was that people linked the remarks with practice to investigate the truth thereof, expounded their implications at the higher level of philosophy and further revealed their universal guiding
significance. Beginning from 2002,studies have developed in breadth and width and from more angles, including comparative studies of the remarks made by DENG Xiao-ping with JIANG Ze-min's speech on July the first and new theoretical breakthroughs in the exploration of the historical position and great significance of the remarks. Studies in the future should,on the basis of these achievements,further clarify the basic motives of development, widen the field of vision and strengthen comparative studies.
