Article Summary by: TsingHua

Original Author: Contemporary China History Studies
The years from 1989 to 1992 were an important period in the Sino-Soviet (Russian) relations, which included three stages:
normalization of Sino-Soviet relations (1989), transition from the Sino-Soviet relations to the Sino-Russian relations (1991) and establishment of the principle of good neighborly relations(1992). " normalization"constituted the core and ran through all the three stages, linking them together. The normalization was an inevitable result of the changes in international situation and the need of national interests of the two countries. In addition, the flexibility in policies with regard to the "three big obstacles "played an important role and created indispensable conditions for the ultimate realization of normalization. The normalization of Sino-Soviet relations exerted profound influences in the coming years. A new type of state relations developed and then withstood the tests with constant changes of international events, thus laying the foundation for steady development of relations between the two big neighbors.
