Originated from a specially cultural enviroment of the early Qing Dynasty, Gu's learning of poetry was, equally, imbued with
various characters which ushered in the development of poetry in the Qing Dynasty the specific academic characters. Gu's view of humanism, with the salvation of culture as its core, represented the value directions and academic approach of the intellectual group of the time, and his ideas of "genious poetry" bearing three levels of interpretation giving to the general direction of poetry in the early Qing dynasty the moral connotations. To build the theories of his own by using antiquity as a mirror to tell how and what to do in writing poetry, Gu opened up a poetic atmosphere, the positivist poetry which specified the poetic style of the Qing dynasty. As a scholar of great attainment in phonelogy, it is difficult not to feel that Gu did not open the way for the Qing Poets to till the land of phonology in poetic enviroment. Much had been the Gu's contribution to the development of poetry in the Qing dynasty, they merited their significance and for him his place.
