Detective fictions are the typical and prevailing type of fictions in the late Qing Dynasty. As foreign detective fictions
are translated and introduced into China, there emerge a number of Chinese
originally created detective fictions in China around the Revolution of 1911.The detective fictions in Chinese
modern times resulted from, first of all,the introduction of works from foreign lands rather than from the Chinese traditional culture,so Chinese writers had already accepted and understood the outlandish literary genre before their own creation. The existence of creation concepts and a number of available sample works for reference enables the Chinese writers to consciously imitate the translated works in terms of detector's profession, literary figures, main subject matters, modes of narration and writing techniques, which is almost a stereotyped creation pattern at that time. The Chinese originally created fictions in Chinese modern times is relatively inferior in overall artistry, mainly characterized by blend of literary styles, mechanical imitation in creation, detector’s monotonous images, and lack of scientific thinking in the solution to cases.
