Article Summary by: TsingHua

Original Author: Journal of Shaanxi Normal University(Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition)
This abstract was translated from 五帝名号考辨
The "Five Prehistoric Experors" was a general reference used by different scholars in the Warring Kingdoms Periocl to prehistoric
legendary figures. Hence the phenomenon of ccombination into one of two or more legendary figures since the late days of those ages. This confusing reference of prehistoric figures has been affecting interpretation of Chinese classics, study of Chinese prehistoric history and development of the implications of historical culture in tourist industry. In fact, the combination of the reign titles of different legendary figures resulted from different motives, but it might have served some specific purposes or have been caused by some mistaken cultural factors. However, the traditional narrative style of writing history is the very key reason which led to identical mistakes in the world of history. Therefore, the presentday study of history must avoid overpursuit of completeness of details and plentifulness of content, otherwise the more studies, the more pseudohistories.
