Hengshan was the only way to Cangwu for Li Bai to travel southward alo ng the Xiang River from Dongting Lake. There is no reason for him not to visit H engshan as viewed from his character in the verse "enjoying going on a visit to famous mountains all my life" with the aspiration of "never afraid of coverin g a long distance in seeking immortal beings in the Five Mountains." One can st ill infer that he must have been there from his deep gratitude to Chengzhen Sima fo r his understanding appreciation. Li Bai's detailed description of the scenery o f Hengshan was so vivid that it could've been impossible for him had he not been there himself. The first four sentences of the poem "Seeing Langjiang Chen off to Hengyang with friends" should be a separate poem intoning Hengshan. Several key words in the collection of Li Bai's poetry bear a possible proof that he was the author of the poem "Visiting Fangguang Temple." Therefore the collection of Li Bai should also include his poems on Hengshan.
