The East Han dynasty saw the heyday of the studies of the classics.But the social disorders afterward made it decline.Then,the
studies of the classics experienced its difficult course of development.It began to revive during the period of the Three Kingdoms.The study of classics in Kingdom Wu was directly from that of the East Han dynasty.It became active because of the support of the rulers.It is prosperous in the North but decrepit in the South in West Jin.The studies of classics declined because of the prosperity of Taoism.But in East Jin,the rulers worshipped Confucianism and restrained Taoism. Scholars of classics made noticeable contributions.In Song and Southern Qi,“every family worshiped Confucianism,everyone read Confucian books”,which became the order of the day.The Liang and Chen Dynasties saw the heyday.Many scholars were steeped in the classics,and produced lots of works explaining the classics.Their style of studies and achievements had great influence on the Shui and Tang Dynasties.
