This abstract was translated from 从《世说新语》看魏晋六朝的谦敬称谓
The Wei,Jin,and Six Dynasties put much emphasis on the polite language as well as the modest and respective title. From the
view of Shi Shuo Xin Yu,it is found out: first, the modest and respective title of this period follow that of antient times, whose representative object and usage had not changed.Second, although the title meant modest and respective in antient times, its representative object, degree and usage had changed.Third, many modest and respective title was created in this period,or while the title did not mean modest and respective in ancient times,it was used to be modest and respective one in this period. The modest and respective title had four features: First,it had close connection with its original meaning or ancient meaning.Second,it had obvious color of hierarchy in respection and low.Third,on respect of using situation,a lot of respective words were often added after the name.Fourth, with regard to the word construction, the endocentric construction was the main method, the complement one took the second place and the others were very little.
