Collected Works of Men of Letters in Mingchang Period, compiled by Zhao Bing-wen,important writer and literature critic, was
a collection of poets from the end of Dading to Jin Zhangzong period, which has been lost. Its significance and value in poetry history has been ignored up to now.The prevailing styles during Zhangzong period included five types: light, elegant, strange, gorgeous, and skillful, and the first two styles of them were created by men of letters in Mingchang period. The writing and creation of literati represented main stream and correct direction of poetry at that time, leading the trend of rethinking about Song Dynasty poetic abuses, and that of learning from tang dynasty poet and restoring ancient ways changing at the end of Jin Dynasty. Collected Works of Men of Letters in Mingchang Period was the key link in the changing of Zhao Bing-wen's thoughts on poem,as well as the fruit of his efforts to oppose poet styles of strange, gorgeous and the summing-up of advantages and disadvantages, and to imitate Su Shi and Huang Ting-jian of the earlier and middle stages of Jin Dynasty poet. This book marked the mature of his thoughts on poetry.
