The Ego's Awakening and Lost——From Sha Fei to Shanghai Baby

Article Summary by: TsingHua

Original Author: Journal of Xinxiang Teachers College
This abstract was translated from 自我的觉醒与迷失——从莎菲到上海宝贝
In 1928, the publishing of Ding Ling's novel Lady Sha Fei's Diary had a great influence on the whole literary world of China,
and from then on, there appear all kinds of comments on the protagonist Sha Fei, but no one can decide which is right. It is not unique, but has its counterpart. Wei Hui, in 1999, published her novel Shanghai Baby and brought strong impact on literary circles, which has led an argument on " beauty writer", and "creating by body", and now the influence has kept lasting. Usually history is extremely similar. Because the two novels all come from the female writers and the main character of the novels are female, too. Someone has listed the novels into the field of female to discuss. Here there exists a misunderstanding on female literature. The article tries to read them from the aspect of feminist by analyzing and comprising the writing techniques, the female' s subject consciousness and the background of the novel and gets the conclusion of that the first work is an excellent female novel, but the later is a false one.
