In order to find
historical evidence for themselves, the faction of "Taiwan Independence" claim that Zheng Jing once established
an independent state in Taiwan. Some persons in the mainland use the past for the present, saying that Zheng Jing was a national splittist and an activist of "Taiwan Independence". Based on
historical evidences, scholars are questioning and disputing this statement. Recently, nearly 500 poems have been found in Zheng Jing's
Collection of Dongbi Building, which shows that the poet, sometimes lonely and depressed and sometimes impassioned, inherited unfulfilled ideal and loyalty of his father Zheng Chenggong. He insisted that Ming dynasty was the only imperial court, resisted Qing dynasty and hoped that one day he could regain the lost land. All these prove that Zheng Jing was not an activist of "Taiwan independence". We should be prudent when evaluating historical personals and should not ignore the right to historical and cultural interpretation against the fallacy of "Taiwan Independence".
