Chinese operas and Sanskrit dramas add radiance and beauty to each other in the two areas of Oriental civilizations and represent
the great accomplishments of the literary and artistic developments of the two countries. It is significant to carry on a textual research into the link between Chinese operas and Sankrit dramas, discover and understand their convergence and similarity in the aspects of cultural characters and artistic forms and demonstrate the factors(whether Chinese operas and Sankrit dramas are derived from the same origin or evolved autonomously )that account for these phenomena. This paper deals with the subject from the following three aspects. Firstly,the cultural intermediary between Chinese operas and Sankrit dramas was the dissemination of Buddhism in China. Secondly, Chinese operas adopted the form of "street performance" similar to that used by a monk who wanders in streets. Thirdly, some Chinese operas are based on Buddhist scripture, and characters such as "mo"(a role in Chinese operas), "dan"(a female character) and "jing"(the "painted face", a character type) are all originated from Sanskrit language.
