City in Full Swing for ICH Festival
The city of Chengdu is getting into full gear andpreparing for the First International
festival of the
Intangible Cultural Heritage, which will be here between May 23 and June 10. During the event, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization will hold a session for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage from May 23 and 27. Representatives from 24 member countries, about 50 observers and 200 NGO representatives from across the world will be present at the conference.
With a theme “inheritance of ethnic culture, communication between civilizations and promotion of a harmonious world,” the grand event is the first international celebration both in China and the world for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) conservation and protection. Approved by the State Council, it is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Sichuan Provincial Government, and organized by the Chengdu Municipal Government, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and the China National Center of Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection.
