India is one country that sees almost all the seasons equally. The country sees so much diversity in language, habitate, thinking, work, culture, climate and much and many more.
After all these differences we see it binded together to call a country. One should feel proud on it and one does certainly.
There is but one common trait we see through out that is
" Corruption". Which makes our head down in shame.
Now, lot has already been told about this social evil and published in abandon. I have nothing new to add on it.
We know what effects it has on society and on other aspects of life.
I would like to discuss on, from where it starts.
There are always two parties involved in the act of Corruption. First are those who are corrupt and are forcing corruption. Second are those who are getting victim of it and still are encouraging corruption by supporting it.
Corruption can be anything -
bribe, professional favours, duty bunkers, unattentive, unprofessional
public behaviour.
How does one starts?
Let us see, a new appointment into one of he public sector.
He comes in on a
salary package comparitive less than what his contemparies are getting in private sector. He has now joined a system which supports itself with bribe to get some extra income. There are some morals and definitely it stops him from doing so. He resists and lives his life on salary. This goes on untill he gets married. Expenditure increases; but still he tends to resist himself living on petite he gets as his salary.
Slowly slowly he gets use to taking some rewards from his customers for whome he served really well. And now he is use to the system. His needs are getting fulfiled financially and he now see no problem in this since he is part of the "Corruption" system.
We have just seen a case where the job was easily avaible. Imagine a case when the job is offered on bribe. This is good enough indication to our new joiny to become a part of system as soon as he joins the job. After all he has to recover all what he has offered as bribe for the post.
So, someone becoming part Corrupt totally depends on number of parameters and on it his moral values play important role. Stronger the morals more time it will take to become part of the system.
Who all involved in it?
According to me everyone who is part of corruption are involved in it. For example, a
traffic guard asks for bribe to evade from challan. Now, the traffic breaker is equally Corrupt as what traffic inspector is.
Amazing isnt it. So does it means we all who have given some kind of bribe, are corrupt. Yes. We all are. And yes all of us who are pumping energy in this system are keeping Corruption alive and healthy.
Where is corruption?I have been witness of it many times. It shall not surprise us if I say that corruption is gone public now. It has become eternal.
Let us take example of a marriage registration office. If someone has to get his marriage within couple of hours there are provisions made for it. Under the table payments. And no one is ashamed for doing so.
Or let us see one more case. Traffic police taking ""hafta"(weekly payment) from six seaters. This is done to allow six seaters to carry more than six passangers in their vehicles. Which is illegal to do so and hence extra charge. Also it is for surety that six seaters can run on roads without any expire checkups, without any paper checkups and without any inspections. Good arrangement.
We can also consider examples of construction contractors paying under-the-table for building contracts, reducing building quality, encroaching land etc.
Is this a necessity?
It looks like the way it is running the society.
But I think otherwise. Society can function far better without it than what it is doing right now.
Who makes society and who decides on the morals of it. Us. And who needs to change? Us.
Our change can be as small as obeying traffic lights to as big as participating big financial deal with no
unlawful benefits. It can be attending office on time and also it can be raising alarm for all bribe requests.
We are the society and we make a society.
