¶The Rockefeller name is synonymous with wealth, but does he have more money than God? No. God is a God
of abundance.
¶John D. Rockefeller, Sr. was an American industrialisit and philanthropist. Rockefeller revoluntionized the petroleum industry and defined the structure of modern philanthropy. Rockefeller had always believed since he was a child that his purpose in life was to make as much money as possible, and then use it wisely to improve the lot of mankind. Money is called currency because it was made to flow through us (conduits) to others. That''s what God wants us to do with wealth. God wants us to use the blessings He bestows upon us to bless others.
¶From his very first paycheck, Rockefeller tithed ten percent of his earnings to his church. As his wealth grew, so did his GIVING, primarily to educational and public health causes, but also for basic science and the arts.
¶In 1870 Rockefeller founded the Standard Oil Company and ran it until he retired in the late 1890''s. He kept his stock and as gasoline grew in importance, his wealth soared and he became the world''s richest man and first U.S. dollar billionaire. Rockefeller is often regarded as the richest person in history.
¶Not only was Rockefeller successful in business, but he was extremely GENOUROUS. Rockefeller was remembered for handing dimes (ten cents) to those he encountered in public.
¶ Married in 1864, Rockefeller outlived his wife, Laura Celestia ("Cettie") Spelman. The Rockefellers had four daughters and one son, (John D. Rockefeller, Jr.). In 1884 he provided major funding for a college in Atlanta for black women that became Spelman College (named for Rockefeller''s in-laws who were ardent abolitionists before the Civil War). Rockefeller also gave considerable donations to Denison University and other Baptist Colleges. All told, Rockefeller gave away about $550 million. Oddly enough, Rockefeller was probably best known in his later life for the practice of giving a dime (ten cents) to children wherever he went. He even gave dimes (ten cents) as a playful gesture to men like tire mogul Havey Firestone and President Hoover. During the Great Depression, Rockefeller switched to giving nickels instead of dimes (ten cents)
¶It appears that Rockefeller was successful in life because of his GIVING and applying the principle of tithing which is ten percent of one''s income. Tithing means to accumulate; to make rich. It worked for the Rockefellers and it will work for you. That''s what the God of abundance says in His Word.
