DIFFERNCES AND DIVERSITIES
The world is a unique place. Everything in it is unique as
well. Yet, everything gets a long as if they were not any different from each other. It’s more like a jigsaw puzzle. Billions and billions of pieces, all different in their exact places, connecting with one another, and coming together to form something unique!
Since the creation of this world, everyone and everything in it has had something about it that is different, something that stopped them from being a part of everything else. But even all these varieties, they were all in one world, a world filled with diversity.
The earth is nothing but differences and diversities, both of which are equally important. If we did not have any differences, we would all be exactly the same. Life would be very boring, and frankly, people would not even want to live. Diversities occur when many different types of things or people are included in something. We are all different, and so everything in this world. When we all live together on the same planet, we form a community filled with diversity, a community better known as Earth.
In today’s world, even though we have the same differences as we did several decades back, we have drifted further apart from each other, and as we do, the little diversity left on this planet keeps on decreasing and decreasing. The reason for this is that people have started to exploit these differences, and turned them into major problems. Problems which this world would do without.
The world is full of differences. Differences in economics, politics, cultures, history, education, languages and religion from only a part of the list that states the problems being faced today. In fact, I go as far to say that even differences in music, food, clothing and entertainment form a threat to society today.
Now that you know what diversity is, the question arises “where do you find diversity?” Diversity starts in your own family. You probably share things like the shape of your nose or the texture of your hair, but still, each person in your family is still different. Even identical twins are unique in their own way. Then comes your community. If you are living in a multicultural community such as one in America or England, you would notice the different ways in which people work, worship, talk and greet other people. This is the great example of the presence of diversity in this world. A community of this type is stated to be living in social diversity.
Political diversity is another of its kind. A country often has many political parties running for different offices in the government. Each of them expresses their own thoughts, opinions and visions in different ways. Each of them has people who support it, and people who are against it. These people don’t live in specific areas depending on which they support, but are jumbled up in the same community and live in what is known as political diversity. They still help each other and pay their taxes etc. the only thing they don’t agree on who to vote for.
Next in line is demographic diversity. This is one hard to accomplish, and often forms the root or part of the root of major problems being faced worldwide. Demographic diversity refers different social groups that people belong to or decide to be part of. There again include age, race, gender, educational level and socio economic class etc. We again take example of a community which have people of different race including white, black etc. Except of the exception of a few, all these people live together in harmony is peace on the same continent forming a land called diversity.
Also under the topic comes cultural diversity. It refers to the acceptance and the promotion of the variety of the various human activities and their different value systems in a given society. Promotion of cultural diversity of social acceptance of differences is also known as multiculturalism. Cultural diversity also recognizes the importance of native languages, dress, traditions, and beliefs that govern self identity. Cultural diversity can be difficult to achieve when different cultures inhabit the same land, there can be confusion and conflict over differences in customs and learned behaviors. Therefore, the issue has none been related to extent education, and educators try to provide the best possible environment to overcome this problem.
If there would be no differences, there would be no diversities. Differences and diversities are what add life to life, what makes this world what it is. It is these differences and diversities that make the human experience worldwide.
