It happens in major cities and smaller ones too. The demise is not limited to just the United States or London or Paris. The problem is
homeless people. Many lived fine upstanding and productive
lives until an event turned their world upside down. For those residing in nice homes or apartments they are the John and Jane Does of
society.
These are folks nobody wishes to admit is there and can not avoid. They are the blemish upon our perfect and ideal world. So when one of them may die alone in a hallway we do not pity them or wonder why they did not try to better themselves. We, as a society, find them repulsive and consider thier passing as jut one less to contend with.
Far too many people are lowered to bumming change for food or forced to search the large green dumpsters near restaurant backdoors for an evening meal. Yes,they did live good lives once. It is sad a veteran down on his luck can not get
assistance because he has no
address. He has no address because he can get no assistance. Who is really to blame to here?
A young
family lives in a car since his unemployment benefits ran out. They get by barely. Passers by look at them and shake thier head. No on bothers to stop and ask Why though. The children and parents can not get help. Why? See the answer above.
When a realtive dies in his sleep at home, he may have family around his bed. Someone most likely is holding his
hand. Possibly a priest or minister may even be there. Concern is great. Sorrow is freely expressed. What about John Doe of Anywhere, USA?
He too is feeling intense pain. He too is in need of spritual assistance, yet gets none. He also could use a hand to hold and console him, but has none. Too bad he was homeless or he might have had all those things.
Maybe if all the high society counts and countesses spent a week in the shoes of John Doe he or she may think differently. Perhaps if they suffered the glances of disdain and sneers of contempt they too would feel what John and Jane do. God forbid they should lose everything and take up residence in one of those hallways. They are just as eligible for membership in the Homeless Club.
There will always be a John or Jane Doe dying somewhere. Let's hope it's not one of us.
