My name is Ryan. I live in the Philippines. I was born in the year
1985. 1985-86 was the year when the Filipino people proved to the world that
democracy can be achieved and ousting a dictator can be done by peaceful means.
That was the time of the People Power Revolution in my country the Philippines.
More than 2
decades later after that historic event, after the Filipinos demonstrated their
love for freedom and democracy, questions arose… have we improve as a nation?
Have we matured as a people? Are we living in a better country with a good
democratic government? Have we attained true freedom? The answer is NO.
We have not
improved as a nation but instead became worse. We have not matured as a people
because we still are acting selfishly, thinking only for our own benefit. We
are not living in a better country with a good democratic government because
our democratic government is far from being good being listed as one of the
most corrupt governments in the world. We have not attained true freedom
because we are living in bondage of poverty.
I think it
was much better when former Dictator Pres. Marcos was still running the country
because during his time more Filipinos have jobs than today, food and fuel costs
less, our military and air force were among the best in Asia, and there was
only one big corrupt government official than thousands of smaller corrupt
government officials.
The purpose
of People Power Revolution was lost. Democracy failed and now we are living
miserably. Rampant corruption, inflation, poverty, low quality education and
basic medical services, over population in urban areas, high unemployment rate,
pollution, rise in criminal activities, under armed police, military, navy and
air force, and constant strife and disunity among leaders.
That is
what the Philippines
I am living in right now, a perfect example of democracy at work.
