            Strategies For Studying

Despite their best intentions, students often study in ways that encourage forgetting. In addition to studying in noisy places where attention is easily directed, students often try to learn too much at one time. In fact, cramming is such a common approach to studying.
Whether one learns verbal material or motor skills such as typing, one is better off spacing learning periods, with rest periods between sessions. Psychologists call this learning strategy distributed practice. “Cramming” is called massed practice because the time-spent learning is massed into long, unbroken intervals. An early study of both strategies found that fewer nonsense syllables were forgotten when participants were given a 126-second rest period (massed practice.). Similar benefits of distributed practice have been found for learning motor skills such as typing. Research also shows that learned material is less likely to be forgotten if it is rehearsed at regularly spaced intervals. It is therefore advised that it is best to study and quiz on a regular basis, rather than cramming the night before the test.
Two facts of school life that students can’t escape include test and homework. One can’t run nor hide from it. Unless a student has a photographic memory, there’s just one-way to make the grade: study.
There are some points to be observed when studying:
Post a “do not disturb” sign.If you want your companions to know that you do not want to be disturbed, they’ll understand the message you wish to convey and refrain from disturbing you.
Look over everything you need to do and write a study plan. Careful planning is the key towards smooth performance of any task. If there are a lot to study, it would help if subjects are carefully scheduled.
Plan several short sessions with breaks. This technique can result to more productivity. One can only be productive if he focuses to things one at a time at shorter periods. Taking a break cuts the monotony and refreshes the mind.
Do the tough assignments first when you’re fresh. This is most important. When your mind is clear, you have greater patience and tolerance to study the tougher assignments. If you do this, the rest of the assignments  would come a lot easier to comprehend because you started with tough ones first.
Vary study activities.  Read for a while then write, then do math problems, then memorize, then read again; save the last few minutes for a final review of test material or materials you need to memorize.
