Act two
Scene two
Farina: ( Looks back and makes sight of a boy timidly walking
behind): You boy! Come here this minute!
The boy: Madam. ( draws shippishly towards her)
Farina ( holds out her hand as she tries to stand up): Now, will you lead me home?
The boy ( firmly takes her by the hands): Here you are.
Farina: That''s 'link_id=110')">it, that''s fine. Now hand me my stick! That''s it, that''s fine.
( Together, they are heading for Ms Farina''s house)
Farina: This generation! It is a disgrace. In this contrite life which Allah has allowed me here, I have recorded day by day the butts of my days and ways with a lot of shock and disdain
The boy: I beg your pardon, madam!
Farina: When I contemplate the force that built the poster ( looking back at the attractive lady drawn in the poster), I feel dismayed and angry.
The boy: I beg your pardon, madam!
Farina: When I think about the new sculptured dog, I feel sad. Now, here we are! Mind the steps!
The boy ( Lights a torch to find his way around): Now, give me your hands!
Farina: I have been living alone for some time now. I never answer the door. You can hammer it down, and still I would not open
The boy ( bites his lower lip as if to express fear):
Farina:( standing at the doorway): Now, come in!
The boy ( Backing away from the doorway, he gets inside the house)
Farina: I am tired and I need to take some rest.
( He lifts the old woman and he places her in bed)
The boy: Take a rest madam ( He takes a seat and faces the poster where the attractive lady is represented inviting beholders to drink Cocacola)
Farina: ( faintly calls him): Scoot the chair over so that I can see you and talk to you.
The boy: Okay, madam! ( he sits on the edge of the chair, sliding his feet down to reach the ground)
Farina: I would like you to write my will for me, will you?
The boys ( gets some papers on which to write the will): Here we are, madam!
Farina: I am dying, you can see it, can''t you?
The boy ( stares with a grimace at the old lady''s running eyes and mouth): No doubt about that madam!
Farina: I am old, old and tired
The boy: ( turns around and he looks through the window at the giantess beckoning him with a bottle " Have some CoCaCoLa!"
Farina: Do as I say and write this for me!
The boy: Come on! Go ahead!
Farina: My first name is Hania. Write this information down
The boy: Here we are, madam!
Farina: I want my silver watch to go to my brother. It came all the way from the bled.
The boy ( looks once more at the poster): Okay madam!
Farina: I used to sit and tarnish it for hours. I don''t do it any more these days. I am too tired to think about that. Put this information down too.
The boy ( looks furtively at the poster): Okay madam, here we are!
Farina: ( faintly): Hurry up!
The boy ( bends his small body, trying to reach the ground, slowly working the pencil across the paper)
Farina: The silver brooch should be gone to my sister. Write this down! That''s the last wish of a dying lady
The boy ( labours over the paper)
Farina: Bring the paper here so that I can sign it
The boy ( gives her the paper)
Farina ( writes an ex at the bottom): You are an exceptional boy. Now put the paper over there and leave me be. I am dying.
The boy ( obeys the order and runs down the stairs)
Later, a cold wind sweeps through the old window and carries the paper down the street. The shopkeeper ultimately picks it up and reads its contents " COCACOLA"
The curtain falls ( end of the play)
