We live in a world where we have allowed ourselves to believe in moral values as described to us by the environment surrounding us. We have believed in our beliefs and considered the moral values as described to us and as interpreted by us as guiding principle for our social or moral conducts.
The authors understands moral values as fall in character of an entity, be it an individual, organization, government or some other species. Sin - as we all know, is one example of low moral value, which can be interpreted in many ways. But let’s talk about how the author expects different entities to behave. As an individual greed, lust, harmful passion could be treated as sin or low moral values for an individual. However, organizations at times could be no less immoral. Same principle holds true for the nations. When time is appropriate we should be receptive to other species coming from other worlds. The other worlds we believe have to exist. The quest for finding another civilization outside the earth has been on. The quest for finding other species on earth may not have kicked just yet.
High values, integrity, conscience seem to be pre-requisite of a civilized society. We have been working hard to instigate moral values in our society to make our future society less error prone. Education on moral values have been part of some of the Asian and western countries. However, we have seen a decline in moral values over a period of time. At least, the existence of low moral values holds true for many countries of the contemporary world. However, mere discussions on lifting our moral values may not be of great help. The values have to be installed in our society at the elementary
schooling level. A proper course and syllabus designed for
students at every level might be helpful. However it might just be too much of a positive re-enforcement. In other words, students must not perceive the topic as mere boring preaching. A six monthly debate on schooling might be of some help at the secondary schooling (junior high), higher secondary (upper high) level. Every student not able to participate in the essay or debate competition should be able to contribute to the topic by writing at least one page on the topic. Even in colleges (undergrads) the students should at least contributing to the topic twice, during their education period.
So what do we do if we come across a person who could have exhibited a low moral value or is prone to low moral values? What if the positive re-enforcement doesn''t work as expected? How do we go about setting some standards which is measurable as well as quantifiable? I am leaving the standards to be set for those scholars who are knowledgeable in the area. In other words a written standard for moral conduct of a civilized society is required. Three sins can be forgiven in the court of God, weave heard. To err is human, to forgive is divine, they say. Being harsher than we should be, on our growing up kids or future of the nations may not be appropriate. However the sins that come the under purview of criminal or civil law has to be treated differently. Those who are more prone to errors need more help. A good parenting has to be an indispensible part of shaping the values of our future generations. A system that accepts errors and mistakes but allows everyone to improve needs to be developed. We cannot allow social stigma as an excuse to lose our children. If they need help they have to see psychologists.
