Why Shree Ram with black complexion !
A famous age-old Hindi Bhakti song "Radha Kyon gori, mein
kyon kala" depicts Shree Krishna being a man with black
complexion; and thus proclaims a black skin to be unfavourable. Every of God Krishna’s pictures and statues shows him to be a black or shyam right since the ancient time. Although he was a very good looking man, there is no doubt for Lord Krishna being a black man ( shyam ).
On the other hand, the image of Lord Ram contradicts with that of Lord Krishna. His
looks is compared with none other than the Sun; it is said that Shree Ram had sun-like lightness on his face. He has been conceived to be a man with fair skin by the masses. Right since my childhood, I have had an image for Lord Ram with fair skin and gorgeous looks. As far as looks is concerned, if black complexion is considered to be negative then Lord Ram is a perfect and unique model; and so was his wife Sita. A couple of Shree Ram and Sita remains gorgeous ever and beyond any comparison.
The color complexion for both Lord Krishna and Lord Ram is also supported by the India mythological epics Mahabharata and Ramayana.
But, then, what has been the reason why Shree Ram is being shown with black complexion recently ? If you are amazed, then go and see Lord Ram’s recent images; you will definitely see him with a black skin. The other conflicting thing to be noticed is that in a same photo you will surely find people with fair complexion - His wife Sita, brother Lakshman, and the beloved worshiper Hanuman. If you think that I am joking, then come to the Western part of India, namely Gujarat. Here, recently, you can easily find Lord Ram shown with black skin. This has been brought about especially post Ramsetu episode as a reflection. Until most recently, I have not ever seen Lord Ram with black complexion. I am unable to make out the so-narrated correlation between Lord Ram and the black (shyam) skin. I have a great faith in Shree Ram, so do many others.
